Roller Derby

Spent my Saturday afternoon at the Showgrounds
watching Roller Derby in Wayville Pavillion

The first round was two new Adelaide teams
They could play...
But they couldn't perform like the Adeladies and Sun State girls did in the second match!

Team Zebra also put on their finest...
I mean who doesn't love some man thigh in tight short shorts?!

Sun State Roller Girls had such a strong defence,
It was always going to be a tough one for the Adeladies
But the second half saw the girls make up for some of the points they lost in the first

And as you want to see at the derby...
Plenty of elbows were thrown!

Adeladies lost by  more than 100 points
But they sure put on a show

Adelaide Farmers Market

I am a market FIEND
Now do not get me wrong, I love the Central Markets
I am yet to post on them
But I grew up shopping at the Willunga Farmers Market
And now it is in the city on a Sunday Morning.
You know where to find me.

So much fresh fruit and veg

Apples in countless varieties...
including my favourite Sundowners

Native flowers

Local cheeses, milk and yogurt.

Cured meats, dried fruits and freshly baked pies.

This place is my food utopia!

Sugar Rush

Ok, So anyone who has ever seen me eat knows that I'm a sugar fiend.
I look at the dessert menu before entree. Everytime.

Golden North Ice Cream.
I am pretty sure you can only buy it in SA.
It is undoubtedly one of my favourite ice creams!
Especially the honey flavour.
(Which won a gold medal at the Show last week)

Nippy's Orange Juice.
Is also a product I have only ever seen in the south.
If you can squeeze your own juice for breakfast, great!
If you can't... no worries, Nippy's tastes just as good!

You know that hangry thing people get?
That's me in the morning before juice.

There is a product that all South Aussies know is missing from this post.
Farmers Union Iced Coffee.
That can get it's own post another time.

Not too bad?
When it comes to food in Adelaide, things can get pretty darn good!

It's Show Time!

I got the impression from people that I am too old (or not old enough) to go to the show
Obviously I wasn't there for the rides and show bags.

But I do love the baking displays...

I dream of entering something, someday.
(I'm pretty much a CWA lady in disguise.)

And the animal displays...

In good timing,
the rains came in just after I had just finished wandering the halls.

Not too BAdelaide?
Actually the show is bloody great!

Birthday Baking

Today is my dear Aunts' birthday
tonight we are going out for dinner
so I made this cake that I have been coveting from The Kitchy Kitchen!

It's an upside-down peach and lavender number
I spent the morning in the rain in aim to pinch a lemon off a neighbours tree
(where else would one get a lemon from?)
and picked the lavender on the way back!
and having no can opener had to go ask my favourite neighbour if I could borrow hers

All in all, the cake looks like a success
Can't wait to feast tonight!

Parwana Afghan Restaurant

Friday night dinner with my aunt and cousin.
Cousin suggests we go to an Afghan Restaurant on Henley Beach Rd.

It always surprises me how multi-cultural Adelaide is.
The city centre is always full of every fashion, from ugg boots to head scarves.
I love this.
And I love the food that new cultures bring!

Rice Pilaff

Parwana didn't disappoint.
I was worried there wouldn't be many vegetarian options.
Boy, I was wrong. And it was all super delish!

Eggplant with tomato and yogurt

Cabbage Dumplings with mince and yogurt sauce

I just wish we had left more room for dessert.
We had rosewater, pistachio ice cream... SO moorish!
The dishes being ordered at some of the other tables looks uberly impressive.
Must return to try them all.. and perhaps some of the Afghan traditional drinks!
I regret not being more adventurous!

Early Days

Today I caught up with my brother for lunch in Glenelg.

Something about the carousel just reminds me of being a kid. I thought I was a princess when I rode that thing!
The carousel is pretty much the only original thing left from Magic Mountain; which was basically the best place to be as an Adelaide kid in the 90's

Anyways, my first few days in Adelaide have been shit boring.
Just looking for a job etc.
But today was all blue sky and lots of laughs.
So, not too bAdelaide
